Righteousness Exalts a Nation, But Sin is a Reproach to any People

By Patricia Newman

Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a reproach to any people.
Proverbs 14:34

Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
Proverbs 3:7

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14

How precious is the word of God! How flawless, how full of divine wisdom! Graciously given to teach us truth, to rebuke us, to correct us, to train us in righteousness and to equip us to do the will of God.(2 Timothy 3:16-17) When we, as individuals or collectively as a nation, reject the word of God, we do so at our peril. Proverbs 13:13 states:

He who despises the word will be destroyed,
But he who fears the commandment will be rewarded.

What we sow, the Bible tells us, we shall reap. If we sow to the flesh through wilful self-determination and worldliness, we shall reap corruption; but if we sow to the Spirit by heeding the word of God, we shall of the Spirit, reap everlasting life. How the nation has fallen! Sadly, over many decades, there has been much sowing to the flesh in Britain. The professing church, in the main, has apostatized. The steady erosion of truth has culminated in a widespread abandonment of God's word and its replacement with secular humanistic philosophy. The deadly marks are everywhere. The nation has fallen apart spiritually. Once a people of "the Book", now Britain is a God-rejecting, Bible-despising nation. Street preachers are scorned and even arrested because the message of the Bible is offensive to people. In the majority of private homes and in every sphere of public life, truth is trodden down. Subjective opinion is exalted and individual opinions and feeling are enthroned. Evil is called good and good evil. The picture is appalling - "the whole head is sick and the whole heart faint".

Legal abortion and the widespread belief that abortion is a woman's right continues to blight this country as well as other "advanced" nations. Many do not see or uphold the sanctity of human life and do not see the destruction of life in the womb as murder.

A nation that fails to protect its children is sunk low indeed. Not only are thousands of babies legally destroyed in the womb every year by persistent rejection of the authority of God's word, the ones that are born are now educated without reference to God or His word. A nation is sunk very low indeed which persecutes individuals and families who stand on God's word and who seek to teach children the eternal, life-giving truths of God's word.

Under the guise of relationship awareness and education, children are now exposed prematurely to sexual matters in their schools. Children as young as seven are bombarded with gender lies and homosexual propaganda. All with a view to producing a generation that is pro-LGBTQ and anti-God. The values espoused and transmitted at school, on TV and in films, and every secular sphere are damaging to children. The true foundation on which spiritual and mental health depends is systematically denied to them. Children are being  harmed by those who should be protecting them - all in the name of the fashionable god of diversity and inclusivity.

Marriage, defined as between a man and a woman by God who instituted it, they teach is between any two people irrespective of gender. Same sex marriage laws not only legitimise but also promote the homosexual agenda. The Bible teaches that "God made them male and female" and gender is determined at birth, they teach that gender is fluid not fixed and that there are many genders even as many as 78. From September 2020 compulsory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is to be implemented in primary schools which means that children as young as five will now be caught up in this corruption. What madness and what evil confusion they foist on children. How the nation has fallen!

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice but when the wicked bear rule, the people mourn.
Proverbs 29:2

Speaking of the Gay Pride parades up and down the country, Mrs May, the Prime Minister, said "the Pride season is always a high point of the summer" How sad! How can spiritual darkness constitute a "high point" for a nation?
The mayor of London joined the Gay Pride event keen to be seen supporting the celebration. Major institutions and retailers including the Armed forces, the Red Arrows with a flypast, Santander and Tesco and many others were all represented in their support and celebration of that which is evil in the sight of God.

My husband and I attended the London event along with our Pastor, a number of other courageous Bible-believing minsters and Christians to witness to the truth of God's word. What we saw there was a gross celebration of sexual sin, lust and eroticism in rebellion against God. Many participants were scantily clad, and intentionally sexually provocative. One young woman who came our way had no covering over their breasts but "rainbow" paint. Another woman chose to bare her backside to us in defiance. How can such behaviour be considered a normal and acceptable public celebration? Many attendees of the parade were teenagers. Shockingly, some parents brought their young children to the evil display - children who should have been shielded from such blatant eroticism.

Notwithstanding, it was a great privilege to join the brethren and to hold a placard proclaiming God's word to lost souls in desperate need of salvation. It was a joy to stand for hours in solidarity and fellowship with true followers of our Lord Jesus Christ. I pleaded with some of the young celebrants to listen to the word of God, to repent and turn to Christ who alone can save them. Sadly, they scoffed and ridiculed. Many of the young people were hideously disrespectful to the preachers some of whom were old enough to be their grandfather. Some of the things they said I cannot repeat. I am haunted by their faces as they revelled in evil. I prayed for their redemption and still do. How the nation has fallen!

Is not the wretched spiritual state of the nation a terrible indictment of the church?
Is not the church supposed to be the ground and pillar of truth? Where are the true and faithful ministers of Jesus Christ? Many so called minsters have abandoned the truth embracing and conforming to the world. They cannot be light and they cannot be salt. Contrary to Scripture they preach a universalism in which all sinners are accepted by God because "God is love" and will not send anyone to hell. Homosexuals and others can sin their way to heaven.

A number of these wolves in sheep's clothing were there to oppose us and to affirm the crowds in their deception. Some of them wore purple T-shirts describing themselves as Christians in Support of Pride. "Love is love", the crowds chanted supported by the deceivers. We were cast as intolerant bigots and haters who fail to love our neighbour rather than as those who proclaim the truth in love warning of God's righteous judgement against unrepentant sinners.

How the professing church must repent! How the church must pray without ceasing that God, in His great mercy, might turn the tide of evil pervading this nation. Wake up church! Stand up for truth! Stand up for Christ!  It is righteousness that exalts a nation; sin is a reproach to any people.

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14

  1. Dear Sister in Christ,
It is indeed all but too true! In the terrible judgment that is to come, as we consider all the wickedness and out and out rebellion against God, no one will reasonably be able say anything other than God is the just Judge of all the Earth! Even now, our merciful God waits to be as gracious to as many who will repent. How God truly forbears! 2 Peter tells us, ‘But beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long suffering towards us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt in fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; and consider that the long suffering of our Lord is salvation...’ (2Peter 3:9-15).

May the Almighty God grant that the Holy Spirit would move in this nation convicting many of sin - and in particular the sin of unbelief in His Son, Yeshua the Messiah who is Lord - of righteousness and of the judgment to come. May the fear of God come upon the people of this land and cause many who attended the so-called Pride march to understand that ‘Pride goeth before destruction’ (Proverbs 16:18) that they might flee the wrath to come into the eternal refuge of Lord Yeshua, the Son of the living God through repentance and faith in His sacrificial death, sinless shed blood on the Cross when His soul became the offering for our sins and in His victorious resurrection on the third day! Amen.
